      What is the Parent Presentation, entitled "Do You Want Your Children Living Home Forever?"

      It is a presentation offered free from LI Works to help parents understand the way the changing world of work will effect there children. It is offered to PTA's, community groups and businesses for their employees during lunchtime


      What are SCANS Skills?

      SCANS is the Secretary's Commission on Acquiring Necessary Skills. This is based on the Secretary of Labor Reichs' findings that there are basic skills which all people in the workforce need. They include communications, critical thinking and analytical skills


      What does it cost to join LI Works?

      Nothing!!! LI Works is a not for profit that is here for the public good. There is no fee to join the coalition, committees, or receive informational seminars.       What is the Internship Connection?

      The Internship Connection is a web-based internship clearinghouse to match students who want internships with Long Island companies offering internship opportunities. It is a secure site with no personal information released to a company about a student who is under 18 years of age. The service is free of charge and is a great opportunity for businesses to connect to their future workforce and for students to learn more about specific skills, careers and businesses so that they can ensure their future success.       What is the Speaker's Bureau?

      The speaker's bureau is composed of a list of volunteer speakers who are maintained in a database. When a request for a speaker comes in, an e-mail message is sent to all names in the database. If you are interested in the opportunity, you respond to the e-mail. Commitments are mostly for one-time presentations only. They can be classroom presentations, panel discussions, and career fairs. Size of groups typically ranges from 20 to 40. On rare occasions somewhat more. Organizations requesting speakers include elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges, technical schools, non-profits, and adult learning centers.


      What is the student e-postcard?

      “This is an essential tool to acquaint students with the career world and give businesses the opportunity to reach out to students.” Chris Leonardis, Event Coordinator, Long Island Works Coalition The e-postcard, similar to an electronic greeting card, links to different sites that emphasize career-planning tips, offer career courses and explore different industries. To date we have on-going communication with over 15,000 students on and off Long Island. The e-postcard is sent out monthly to students who register on the LI Works website. Students can visit our website at www.liworks.org/interns to post their resume and receive the e-postcard.
