Workforce Builders Awards Luncheon

13 Workforce Builders Awards Winners were honored, along with guests including nominators, and past winners. The event was held ath the BioTechnology Building at Farmingdlae State University.

The first East End Career Fair took place in October 2005 at the Jamesport Community Center in Jamesport on the East End. Around 200 high school and college students attended to participate in orientations, panel discussions and exhibitor highlighting companies on the East End. The panels were comprised of companies representing tourism, government, marine industry and professional services.

A partnership between KeySpan and the Long Island Works Coalition with the objective of developing a 3rd grade program to educate students about careers at KeySpan and about the company. Robert Catell, CEO of KeySpan, participated as a presenter of the program in a number of elementary schools. Terryville Elementary School, of the Comsewogue School District, was one of the first schools selected.

The Long Island Works Coalition, Junior Achievement of New York and Motorola, Inc. partnered to bring the 2008 Science, Math, Art, Reading & Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) Expo to middle school students on Long Island. The Long Island S.M.A.R.T. Expo was held on March 27, 2008 at the Huntington Hilton.

The Long Island Association (LIA), the region’s largest business and civic organization, the Long Island Works Coalition (LI Works), the Ford Motor Company Fund, and seven Long Island school districts today announced that they will collaborate on the creation of career academies at seven Long Island high schools to be opened in September 2008. The seven school districts are: Bridgehampton, Central Islip, East Islip, Middle Country, Wantagh, William Floyd, and Wyandanch.

Ford Motor Company Fund sponsored a training about their project, inquiry-based curriculum, called Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies on September 25, 2008. In attendance were representatives from 25 school districts across Long Island.

East Islip School District officially launched its Green Career Academy program on Wednesday, October 29.

Administrators and guidance counselors from nine school districts attended a full-day workshop about student master scheduling, conducted by Mike Neubig, Ford Motor Company Fund Consultant, and owner of Capture Educational Consulting Services.

Workshop for Guidance Counselors, Athletic Directors and Department Chairs to learn more about Long Island's higher education institutions. Hosted by Adelphi University and held at the Garden City campus and new athletic center.

October 5 introduction of Goodwill Industries to Long Island, and the announcement of the partnership between the 2 organizations. Almost 200 people attended.

Office of Women's Services, and supported by the Suffolk County Bar Association, Bank of Smithtown and partnered with Long Island Works Coalition, a Division of Goodwill Industries of Greater NY & Northern NJ. Participation on Friday, March 26 by 8 high schools, over 110 young women and hosted by Molloy College in Farmingdale
